Hi, I'm Sarah Lou.

Owner and founder of Sarah Lou Crafts where I create beautifully handcrafted Notebook Journals and Crochet Gifts for all occasions from my home studio in Carmarthenshire, South Wales. I am also an advocate for slow fashion and sustainable home décor.

My Story

My youngest son is autistic and was diagnosed with a rare lymphoma in 2016 when he was just 14 years old. I gave up my full-time paid employment as a Speech Therapy Assistant to become his full-time carer and my crafts were vital to my mental health. I decided to start selling them as a therapy and for the extra income we so desperately needed at such a difficult time in our lives. I am an experienced hobby crafter who taught myself to crochet in 2013. I have been selling online since 2017 first as Adventure Accessories and now as Sarah Lou Crafts creating sustainable eco-conscious handmade gifts.

In 2020 I joined my local community town band as a Clarinet player. Music has always been a passion but only a few weeks later the world changed and we went into complete lockdown due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Thank goodness I had my crochet and small business to make up for no more music for the foreseeable future.

I built a successful handmade business as people turned to online shopping and I am thankful for the opportunity to grow out of a difficult time. Ryan finished treatment in August 2020 and in May 2021 life began to return to some normality, meeting in person and the Band were able to resume rehearsals and playing music once more.

Since then we have gone from strength to strength and I am also the band’s music librarian. I still love making my Notebook Journals and Crochet Gifts and enjoy being busy while juggling my many creative outlets and caring for my son. Now is the time for me to grow my passion for sustainable living and the slow fashion movement and to help other like minded eco-conscious people.

I also now offer PDF Patterns and Craft Kits too so that other crafters can enjoy creating as much as I enjoy Crochet & Clarinet.
