Hooked on yarn and stitching up a slow fashion revolution, from Carmarthenshire, Wales, creating handmade, eco-conscious gifts.
In a world increasingly aware of its environmental footprint, I created Sarah Lou Crafts from a simple desire to create beautiful, mindful gifts that won’t cost the Earth. I am a passionate advocate for sustainable living, using natural materials like British wool, cork fabric, and cotton threads, plus recycled and repurposed yarns, for a long term approach to thoughtful purchases and meaningful gift giving.
In 2016 my youngest son, who is autistic, was diagnosed with a rare lymphoma aged 14 years old. I took voluntary redundancy to become his full-time carer and during an incredibly difficult, high-stress period of hospital stays and treatments, I found that crafting was vital for my own mental health and well-being, it offered a quiet, grounding space to process everything. Needing to supplement our family's income while staying at home to care for my son, I took a leap of faith and began selling my handmade pieces online in 2017, initially under the name Adventure Accessories before evolving into Sarah Lou Crafts in 2023.
I was then diagnosed with my own cancer in September 2025 and continued to run my small business through my treatment as it was a much needed boost to my mental health and wellbeing to have such a positive focus and motivation to keep going.
Thank you for being with me on this wild ride.
I won the Small Business Sunday award from Theo Paphitis on 18 September 2023.
At the time, I went into a major imposter syndrome moment of feeling completely unworthy for winning, but being a part of the amazing SBS community has helped my confidence and the other amazing small business winners are inspirational.
The incredible Annual Event hosted by Theo and meeting him to collect my certificate was unreal, and I totally fluffed speaking to him on the day. The Facebook group is full of daily help and support for all things small business riding the lows and celebrating the wins together. It is definitely the highlight for my small business so far.
In March 2026 I was nominated for the Enterprise Vision Awards by a wonderful customer with this testimonial.
I nominate Sarah for her remarkable resilience and dedication. While navigating a cancer battle with immense grace, she continues to run a standout sustainable business. Sarah's commitment to eco-friendly, high-quality craftsmanship is matched only by her exceptional customer service; she treats every client like a friend. She is a true inspiration - a creative entrepreneur who leads with kindness, integrity, and passion, even in the face of life's toughest challenges.
