In June 2026 I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Eve for the Greener Gifting Gang podcast. Eve is an eco-gifting expert who launched the show in 2025 to explore how to give more mindfully while reducing our environmental impact. The podcast recently celebrated its first anniversary in June 2026.
What the Podcast Covers
The show is designed for both individuals looking to give more sustainably and small business owners who want to improve their product presentation. Episodes typically focus on:
Eco-Friendly Techniques: Tips on low-waste wrapping, using recycled materials, and "treading lighter on the planet."
Small Business Insights: Helping artisans (like makers on Folksy or Etsy) use intentional wrapping to create "customer joy" and build a memorable brand.
Conscious Creativity: Interviews with guests ranging from sustainability advocates to fellow handmade business owners (such as makers of clay gifts or spice blends).
Eve welcomed me to the podcast and asked me to introduce myself to the listeners.
Hi, I am Sarah Lou, hooked on yarn and stitching up a slow fashion revolution, from Carmarthenshire, Wales, where I create beautiful, eco-conscious handmade gifts from my home studio.
What occasions do you give gifts for?
We buy for common occasions such as birthdays and Christmas as you would expect plus weddings, new babies housewarming and an excuse really to buy gifts. I love treating people and seeing them smile when they open their presents.
Do you enjoy the process of choosing gifts?
I love shopping for gifts and trying to find quirky, different, one of a kind gifts. We're not big on mass produced ‘tat’ for gift giving and we don't give for the sake of it. We like the process to be meaningful and for gifts to last; not be thrown into a drawer never to be seen or used again. I love browsing handmade gifts on platforms such as Folksy and the British Craft House who highlight and showcase beautiful handmade bespoke unique gifts from UK Artisans and makers.
Do you enjoy wrapping gifts?
I love wrapping orders and handwriting thank you cards, when it comes to family, I like to use reusable fabric gift bags as they are pretty and practical. This obviously makes the process a lot easier and faster to do and we have a collection of pretty bags that we pass around as we regift to each other in the family. When my two boys were little I would spend hours wrapping their presents for birthdays and Christmas in wrapping paper with ribbons and bows but realized how wasteful this practice is, especially with wrapping paper that is shiny like foil which is not easily recyclable, which is why I made the move to reusable gift bags and actually use brown paper wrapping as well with jute string which is plain and simple but looks really pretty.
Do you have any rituals or traditions when it comes to wrapping?
We grew up quite poor and I remember my mum going around our birthday parties and on Christmas morning collecting the wrapping paper together so that she could reuse what she could for future presents. When my two boys were smaller and I would sit wrapping their Christmas presents I would put on the traditional Christmas CD music to listen to whilst I sat on the floor and had all the wrapping items around me. Now that they are adults, I have a box under the spare bed with the gift bags in and other wrapping paper I've saved and the plain brown paper that I mentioned before and I get the box out and sit on the spare bed to wrap presents, I am too old for the floor now, and take a moment of peace and enjoyment whilst I go through the process.
Are there any particular gift memories that stand out for you? For example a special gift that you have chosen for someone or have received?
We grew up poor and my mum made the majority of our gifts, she made almost all our clothes and would make my matching outfits or my Sindy doll.
When my eldest son and Daughter in law moved into their new home, my housewarming gift to them was a puppy portrait of their dog, commissioned to the amazing artist Rachel Cobb Art. She did an amazing job and it got top marks for a unique gift.
While my youngest son was going through cancer treatment as a teenager, you can imagine that we really were not in the Christmas mood that year. On christmas eve there was a knock at our door and there stood neighbours and friends with a huge food and gift hamper & a real Christmas Tree. The whole village had clubbed together to do that for us and I still tear up with gratitude thinking about what a wonderful surprise that was.
Then, at the start of 2026 while I was going through my own cancer treatment a friend and fellow small business owner gifted me a beautiful piece of art that she and her daughter had worked on together as a mixed media piece. It is stunning and has pride of place on my book case.

My mission is to help people experience the joy of gift giving while also considering the planet. Do you take being greener into consideration with your gifting or giftwrapping?
Absolutely, sustainability is my core ethos both personally and professionally. I use recycled packaging to help reduce waste and protect the environment with eco-friendly, unbleached, recyclable tissue paper for wrapping and paper tape for parcels. Occasionally you may see some slight wear and tear to your packaging but I am sure you will understand this in no way affects the quality of your carefully wrapped handmade items inside. Plus, as I mentioned earlier, we reuse gift bags and wrapping as a family and have no issue with swapping the bags between each other, each time we gift.
In addition to the free podcast, Eve runs a monthly membership under the same name. This is a paid community specifically for product-based business owners. It includes:
Masterclasses: Live and recorded video tutorials on giftwrapping skills.
